Identification:
Small tree or shrub with pinnate leaves. Flat clusters of creamy-white flowers followed by dark purple-black berries.

Flowers and berries (berries must be cooked)

Uses:
Cordials, syrups, wines, jams, medicinal preparations

Lookalikes & Cautions:
Raw berries can cause stomach upset; stems and leaves are toxic. Always cook berries.

Ethical Notes:
Harvest lightly; elder supports wildlife.
