Fungi Identification – A Note of Care
At Foray, we forage for mushrooms throughout their natural seasons, learning to recognise a range of well-known, edible species that are commonly found in British woodlands. The fungi listed here are chosen for their relative ease of identification and their long history of use as food.
However, fungi demand care and respect. Many species have close lookalikes, and some mushrooms are highly toxic or fatal if misidentified. For this reason, we strongly recommend foraging alongside an experienced guide, using multiple reliable sources, and carrying out thorough checks before consuming any wild mushroom. When in doubt, do not eat it.
